The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever disowns his child to disgrace him in this world, Allah will disgrace him on the Day of Resurrection before all the witnesses. It is retribution for retribution."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من انتفى من ولده ليفضحه في الدنيا، فضحه الله يوم القيامة على رؤوس الأشهاد، قصاص بقصاص.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (4795), and from his route Tabarani in Al-Kabir (12:400), from Waki, from his father, from Abdullah bin Abu Mujalid, from Mujahid, from Ibn Umar, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Waki's father, who is Jarra bin Mulayh bin Adi Ruasi, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan.Abu Ahmad bin Adi said, "He has sound hadiths and correct narrations, and his hadith is not objectionable. He is truthful. I did not find anything objectionable in his hadith to mention, and most of what is narrated from him comes through his son Waki, though trustworthy people other than Waki also narrated from him. Ibn Main spoke harshly about him, but because of conflicting reports about him, that statement of his falls away. It was said of him, 'I did not write down what came from Waki from his father.' It was said of him, 'Daif.' It was said of him, 'There is no harm in him.' It was said of him, 'Trustworthy.' And it was said of him that Ibn Main called him a liar and said, 'He was a fabricator.'" See what he said in Tahdhib al-Tahdhib.Bayhaqi narrated it (8:332-333) with another chain, from Matar Warraq, who was told by Nafi, from Ibn Umar, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then mentioned several things, among them his saying, "Whoever disowns his child, thereby disgracing him in this world, Allah will disgrace him before all creation on the Day of Resurrection." Matar Warraq is also a subject of disagreement, though his hadith is hasan. His saying, "Retribution for retribution," means that retribution will be taken from him in the afterlife in return for what he did to his child by denying his lineage and disgracing him in this world.
