Hilal bin Umaya accused his wife before the Prophet ﷺ of committing adultery with Sharik bin Sahma. The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Bring proof, or you will receive the lashes on your back."Hilal replied, "Messenger of Allah, when one of us sees a man with his wife, is he supposed to go off looking for proof?"But the Prophet ﷺ kept repeating, "Bring proof, or you will receive the lashes on your back."Hilal said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I am telling the truth, and Allah will surely send down something that will spare my back from the punishment."Then Jibreel descended and revealed to him "And those who accuse their wives" [Nur 24:6] until he reached "if he is among the truthful" [Nur 24:9].
