Ghumaysa, or Rumaysa, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complaining about her husband, claiming that he was unable to consummate the marriage with her. Only a short while passed before her husband came and claimed that she was lying, and that she only wanted to return to her first husband.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is not available to you until another man tastes your sweetness."
جاءت الغميصاء- أو الرميصاء إلى رسول الله ﷺ تشكو زوجها، وتزعم أنه لا يصل إليها. فما كان إلا يسيرا حتى جاء زوجها. فزعم أنها كاذبة. ولكنها تريد أن ترجع إلى زوجها الأول. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: ليس لك ذلك، حتى يذوق عسيلتك رجل غيره.
Nasai (3411) and Ahmad (1837) both narrated it through the hadith of Hushaym, who said, Yahya bin Abu Ishaq told us, from Sulayman bin Yasar, from Ubaydullah bin Abbas, who related it. The wording given is that of Ahmad. In the wording of Nasai it reads, "No, not until he tastes her honey as the first one tasted it," and its chain of transmission is sahih.Ubaydullah bin Abbas is the brother of Abdullah bin Abbas, younger than him by one year. Ibn Hajar said in his biographical entry in al-Isabah, "Its narrators are trustworthy, though it is not explicit that Ubaydullah bin Abbas witnessed the incident himself." He means that it is among the mursal narrations of a companion. It has been established that he used to ride behind the Prophet ﷺ, and that he heard from him just as his brother Abdullah did. At the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ he was more than ten years old.Ghumaysa, or Rumaysa, was the wife of Amr bin Hazm. He divorced her, and then another man married her, but he divorced her before consummating the marriage. She came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him whether she could return to her first husband, so he said, and then the narrator related the hadith.
