The People of the Book used to recite the Torah in Hebrew and explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not believe the People of the Book, nor disbelieve them. Rather say, 'We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and what was revealed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, and the tribes, and what was given to Musa and Isa, and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted'" [Baqarah 2:136].
Bukhari narrated it in the Tafsir (4485), in the Itisam (7362), and in the Tawhid (7542), in all three places from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Uthman bin Umar narrated to us, Ali bin Mubarak informed us, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it, with the same wording in all of them.On the question of translating the meanings of the Quran, Bayhaqi says, "If the People of the Book are truthful in what they interpret of their Book in Arabic, that would be among what was revealed to them, in the manner of expressing what was revealed, and the speech of Allah is one and does not vary with the variation of languages. Whatever tongue it is recited in, it is the speech of Allah." He then traced back to Mujahid regarding the words of Allah Almighty, "that I may warn you with it, and whoever it reaches" [Anam 6:19], meaning whoever among the non-Arabs and others embraces Islam. Bayhaqi said, "He may not know Arabic, but if its meaning reaches him in his own tongue, then it is a warning for him." See Fath al-Bari (13/517).
