The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of entering upon women."A man from the Ansar asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about the in-laws?"He replied, "The in-laws are death."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إياكم والدخول على النساء فقال: رجل من الأنصار: يا رسول الله أفرأيت الحمو؟ قال: الحمو موت
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5232) and Muslim in the Book of Greetings (2172), both from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Layth narrated to us, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Abu Khayr, from Uqba bin Amir, who said, and then he related it.Al-hamu follows the pattern of "al-dalw." Nawawi said, "What is meant by al-hamu here are the relatives of the husband other than his fathers and sons. As for the fathers and sons, they are mahrams to his wife, so it is permissible for them to be alone with her, and they are not described as death. Rather, what is meant is the brother, the brother's son, the paternal uncle, his son, and others like them who are not mahrams." End of quote.
