The Prophet ﷺ was at the home of one of his wives when one of the Mothers of the Believers sent a dish containing food. The wife in whose house the Prophet ﷺ was struck the servant's hand, and the dish fell and broke. The Prophet ﷺ gathered the broken pieces of the dish and began collecting into it the food that had been in the dish, saying, "Your mother became jealous."Then he detained the servant until a dish was brought from the wife in whose house he was. He handed the intact dish to the wife whose dish had been broken, and kept the broken one in the house of the wife who had broken it.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5225), from Ali, who said, Ibn Ulaya narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas, who said, then he related it.A note. Hafiz said, I did not come across the name of the servant. As for the one who sent it, she was Zaynab bint Jahsh. Ibn Hazm mentioned this in al-Muhalla, via Layth bin Saad, from Jareer bin Hazim, from Humayd, who said, I heard Anas bin Malik say that Zaynab bint Jahsh sent a gift to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in Ayesha's house on Ayesha's day, a bowl of hais, the hadith continues. He said, "We have gained from this knowledge of the food mentioned." Then he brought forward other stories similar to this one that occurred between the Mothers of the Believers, so refer back to it. Fath al-Bari (5/125).
