A man stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, so-and-so is my son. I committed fornication with his mother during the days of ignorance."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "There is no claim of paternity through fornication in Islam. The practices of the days of ignorance are gone. The child belongs to the marriage bed, and the fornicator gets the stone."
قام رجل فقال: يا رسول الله! إن فلانا ابني، قد عاهرت بأمه في الجاهلية. فقال رسول الله ﷺ: لا دعوة في الإسلام، ذهب أمر الجاهلية، الولد للفراش، وللعاهر الحجر.
Abu Dawud (2274) narrated it from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, Husayn Muallim informed us, from Amr bin Shuayb by his chain, and he mentioned it. Imam Ahmad (6933) also narrated it from Yazid bin Harun by his chain, in a lengthy context. Its chain is hasan because of Amr bin Shuayb, for he is hasan al-hadith.Ad-daawa, with the dal vowelled with a kasrah and the ayn silent, means that a man claims descent from someone other than his father, and affiliation with a clan other than his own. This was practiced in the Jahiliyyah, but Islam forbade it, and made the child belong to the marriage bed.
