I wrote to Nafi, and he wrote back to me that the Prophet ﷺ launched a raid against Banu Mustaliq while they were unaware, with their livestock being watered at the water source. He killed their fighting men, took their women and children captive, and on that day he acquired Juwayriyah. Abdullah bin Umar narrated this to me, and he was part of that army.
كتبت إلى نافع، فكتب إلي أن النبي ﷺ أغار على بني المصطلق وهم غارون، وأنعامهم تسقى على الماء، فقتل مقاتلتهم، وسبى ذراريهم، وأصاب يومئذ جويرية. حدثني به عبد الله بن عمر، وكان في ذلك الجيش.
Bukhari narrated it in "Manumission" (2541) via Abdullah bin Mubarak, and Muslim narrated it in "Jihad and Expeditions" (1730) via Salim bin Akhdar, both of them from Ibn Awn, who said, then he related it. The wording given here is that of Bukhari.
