I made a contract with my masters that I would plant five hundred Fasila palm shoots for them, and once they took root, I would be free.I came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him about this. He said, "Plant them, and stipulate the condition with them. When you are ready to plant, let me know."So I informed him.He came and began planting them with his own hand, except for one, which I planted with my own hand. They all took root except for that one.
كاتبت أهلي على أن أغرس لهم خمس مائة فسيلة، فإذا علقت فأنا حر. قال: فأتيت النبي ﷺ، فذكرت ذلك له، فقال: اغرس، واشترط لهم، فإذا أردت أن تغرس فآذني. قال: فآذنته. قال: فجاء، فجعل يغرس بيده إلا واحدة، غرستها بيدي، فعلقن إلا الواحدة.
Ahmad (23730) narrated it from Affan, who said, Hammad bin Salama told us, Ali bin Zayd informed us, from Abu Uthman Nahdi, from Salman, and he related it. Ali bin Zayd is Ibn Jadan, who is daif, but he was corroborated by Asim bin Sulayman Ahwal. Hakim (2/217-218) narrated it, and from him Bayhaqi (10/321), both from the hadith of Uthman bin Muslim, who said, Hammad bin Salama told us, from Asim bin Sulayman Ahwal and Ali bin Zayd, both from Abu Uthman Nahdi, and he related it.On this subject there is also what was narrated from Sahl bin Hunayf, who said, the Messenger of Allah said, "Whoever assists a fighter in the cause of Allah, or one bound by a contract of manumission in fulfilling it, Allah will shade him on the day when there is no shade but His." Ahmad (15986) narrated it from Zakariya bin Adi, who said, Ubaydullah bin Amr informed us, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, from Abdullah bin Sahl bin Hunayf, from his father, and he related it.This chain includes Abdullah bin Sahl bin Hunayf Ansari, one of the men mentioned in Tajeel, entry (549), whose only narrator was Abdullah bin Aqeel, and he is not well known. The Hafiz said, "Hakim graded his hadith sahih, but I have not found him among the reliable narrators listed by Ibn Hibban, though he does meet Ibn Hibban's standard."I say, the matter is as he stated. It was recorded by Hakim (2/89-90), and by Ahmad (15987), both from the hadith of Zuhayr bin Muhammad, who said, Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel told us, from Abdullah bin Sahl bin Hunayf, that Sahl told him that the Messenger of Allah said, "Whoever assists a fighter in the cause of Allah, or a debtor in his hardship, or one bound by a contract of manumission in fulfilling it, Allah will shade him in His shade on the day when there is no shade but His." Hakim passed over it in silence.He then narrated it (2/217) by way of Amr bin Thabit, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel with his chain, similarly, and said, "The isnad is sahih." Dhahabi took issue with this, saying, "Rather, Amr is a Rafidi and discarded narrator."
