He used to issue legal verdicts concerning a slave, male or female, owned jointly by partners, where one of them frees his share. He would say, "His complete emancipation becomes obligatory upon the one who freed his share, provided he has sufficient wealth. The slave is valued at a fair price from his wealth, the partners are paid their respective shares, and the freed slave is released."Ibn Umar reported this from the Prophet ﷺ.
أنه كان يفتي في العبد أو الأمة يكون بين شركاء، فيعتق أحدهم نصيبه منه يقول: قد وجب عليه عتقه كله إذا كان للذي أعتق من المال ما يبلغ، يقوم من ماله قيمة العدل، ويدفع إلى الشركاء أنصباؤهم، ويخلى سبيل المعتق يخبر ذلك ابن عمر، عن النبي ﷺ.
