I asked Abdullah bin Abu Awfa, "Did the Prophet ﷺ leave a will?"He replied, "No."I said, "Then how was making a will prescribed for people, or how were they commanded to make wills?"He answered, "He bequeathed the Book of Allah."
سألت عبد الله بن أبي أوفى: هل كان النبي ﷺ أوصى؟ فقال: لا. فقلت: كيف كتب على الناس الوصية؟ أو أمروا بالوصية؟ قال: أوصى بكتاب الله.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on wills (2740) through Malik, from Talha bin Musarrif, as mentioned. It is not found in the narration of Yahya Laythi's Muwatta. Muslim also narrated it in the chapter on wills (1636) through another route from Talha bin Musarrif.
