The Prophet ﷺ said, "The freed slave of a people is one of them," or words to that effect.
عن النبي ﷺ قال: مولى القوم من أنفسهم أو كما قال.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Inheritance (6761) from Adam, who said, Shuba narrated to us, who said, Muawiya bin Qurra and Qatada narrated to us, from Anas, and he related it.Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1059/133) through another route from Shuba, from Qatada alone, with his chain, at greater length, and its wording is as follows. He said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the Ansar and said, "Is there among you anyone who is not one of you?" They said, "No, except a sister's son of ours." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sister's son of a people is one of them." Then he related the rest of the hadith concerning the merits of the Ansar. His saying, "the freed slave of a people," means their emancipated freedman, who is affiliated to them and whom they inherit from.
