A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, "Messenger of Allah, they ask you for a ruling about kalalah. What is kalalah?"He replied, "The verse of summer is sufficient for you."
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ، فقال: يا رسول الله، يستفتونك في الكلالة فما الكلالة قال: تجزيك آية الصيف.
Reported by Abu Dawud (2889), Tirmidhi (3042), and Ahmad (18589), all of them from the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, from Abu Ishaq, from Bara, who narrated it.There is disagreement over whether Abu Bakr bin Ayyash actually heard directly from Abu Ishaq Sabi. However, Hajjaj bin Artah corroborated him, narrating from Abu Ishaq. Ahmad (18607), Abu Yaala (1656), and Tahawi in his Mushkil (5226) reported it through this route. There is well-known criticism of Hajjaj bin Artah, but his corroboration of Abu Bakr strengthens the report.Abu Dawud added, "I said to Abu Ishaq, 'Is this about someone who dies leaving no child and no parent?' He said, 'That is how they understood it, that it is so.'" This confirms that he did hear it from Abu Ishaq.
