The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever buys a sheep whose milk has been withheld in its udder has the choice for three days. If he wishes, he may keep it, and if he wishes, he may return it along with a sa of dates."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: من ابتاع شاة مصراة فهو فيها بالخيار ثلاثة أيام، إن شاء، أمسكها، وإن شاء ردها، ورد معها صاعا من تمر.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Sales (1524:24), from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Yaqub bin Abdul-Rahman Qari related to us, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurairah. In another version, from Qurra, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording, except that he said, "If he returns her, he should return with her a saa of food, not wheat." In another version, from Ayub, from Ibn Sirin as well, with the wording, "Whoever buys a sheep whose udder has been bound up to appear full of milk has the choice between two options, if he wishes he may keep it, and if he wishes he may return it along with a saa of dates, not wheat." But this version does not mention the three-day option.Bukhari pointed to this difference in the version of Ibn Sirin, following the hadith of Araj from Abu Hurairah mentioned earlier in the chapter, saying, "Some of them said, from Ibn Sirin, 'A saa of food, and he has the choice for three days.' And some of them said, 'A saa of dates,' without mentioning 'three days.' And the mention of dates is more common."
