The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade muhaqalah, muzabanah, muawamah, and mukhabarah. One of the two narrators explained that selling crops years in advance is muawamah. He also forbade thunya, but granted a concession for araya.
نهي رسول الله ﷺ عن المحاقلة، والمزابنة، والمعاومة، والمخابرة- قال أحدهما: بيع السنين هي المعاومة-، وعن الثنيا ورخص في العرايا.
Muslim narrated it in "The Book of Business Transactions" (1536:85) through Hammad bin Zayd, who said, Ayub told us, from Abu Zubayr and Saeed bin Mina, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it.Abu Dawud (3405), Tirmidhi (1290), and others narrated it through Yunus bin Ubayd, from Ataa, from Jabir, who related the same, adding to it, "and the thunya, unless it is known."The forbidden sale of thunya is when a man sells the fruit of his orchard while excluding from it an unspecified portion. But if he excludes from it a known portion, the sale is permissible.
