The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade taking payment for a dog and for the stud fee of a male animal.
نهي رسول الله ﷺ عن ثمن الكلب، وعسب الفحل.
Ibn Majah (2160), Nasai (4675), and Darimi (2665) all narrated it through the route of Ibn Fudayl, from Amash, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, who related it, except that "Abu Hurairah" was omitted in the printed Sunan Nasai, though it is confirmed in Kubra (6226). It was likewise mentioned by Mizzi in Tuhfah (10/84, hadith 13407), and it is the same in other sources. The wording in Nasai is, "the stud fee of a billy goat." Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Abu Hazim is Salman Ashjai. The hadith of Abu Hurairah has other chains of transmission as well, and some of them add, "and the earnings of a prostitute." Ahmad (8389) and Darimi (2624) both narrated it from the hadith of Qasim bin Fadl, from his father, from Muawiya Mahri, who said, Abu Hurairah said to me, and he related the hadith.Abu Qasim is Fadl bin Madan Haddani. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat (7/317). He has an entry in Tarikh al-Kabir and in Jarh wa Tadil without any affirmation or criticism of his reliability, so he is counted among the unknown narrators. Likewise, his teacher Muawiya Mahri, from whom no one narrated except Fadl bin Madan, has an entry in Tarikh al-Kabir, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat (5/414), but no one else affirmed his reliability, so he too is counted among the unknown narrators.
