The Prophet ﷺ forbade selling fruits for several years in advance, and he ruled that losses caused by natural disasters be deducted.
أن النبي ﷺ نهي عن السنين، ووضع الجوائح.
Abu Dawud (3374) narrated it from Ahmad bin Hanbal and Yahya bin Main, who both said, Sufyan narrated to us, from Humayd al-Araj, from Sulayman bin Atiq, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it. Nasai (4529) narrated it from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Yazid, who said, Sufyan narrated to us with his chain, and it contains, "that the Prophet ﷺ waived crop losses caused by natural disaster." Ibn Hibban (5031) narrated it from the hadith of Yahya bin Main, from Ibn Uyayna with his chain, and it contains, "that the Prophet ﷺ ordered the waiving of crop losses caused by natural disaster."Bayhaqi (5/306) narrated it, after mentioning the statement of Shafii as given earlier, and said, "This has also been narrated from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir." Then he narrated it through the route of Ali bin Abdullah, from Sufyan, from Humayd bin Qays, from Sulayman bin Atiq, from Jabir, that the Prophet ﷺ ordered the waiving of crop losses caused by natural disaster. Ali (Ibn Abdullah al-Madini) said, "Sufyan had narrated to us from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he waived crop losses caused by natural disaster. This is how Sufyan brought it." End of quotation.Through these routes it becomes clear that what Sufyan narrated regarding the waiving of crop losses caused by natural disaster is not to be doubted.
