We were brought before the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Qurayzah. Whoever had grown pubic hair was killed, and whoever had not was set free. I was among those who had not grown hair, so I was set free.
عرضنا على النبي ﷺ يوم قريظة، فكان من أنبت قتل، ومن لم ينبت خلي سبيله، فكنت فيمن لم ينبت، فخلي سبيلي.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (4405), Tirmidhi (1584), Nasai (4981), Ibn Majah (2541), and Ahmad (18776). Ibn Hibban (4781) and Hakim (2/123) graded it sahih. All of them narrated it through various routes from Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, who said, "I heard Atiya al-Qurazi," and then he mentioned it.Hakim said, "Its chain is sahih."Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith, and the practice among some scholars is that they consider the growth of pubic hair to indicate puberty, if one's nocturnal emission or age is not known. This is the view of Ahmad and Ishaq."
