She had taken on a debt, and someone said to her, "Umm Muiminin, you take on debts when you have no means to repay them?"She replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever takes on a debt intending to repay it, Allah will help him.'"
أنها استدانت، فقيل لها: يا أم المؤمنين، تستدين وليس عندك وفاء. قالت: إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: من أخذ دينا وهو يريد أن يؤديه أعانه الله عز وجل.
Nasai (4687) narrated it from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Wahb bin Jareer told us, who said, my father told us, from Amash, from Husayn bin Abdul-Rahman, from Ubaydullah bin Utba, that Maymuna borrowed money, and he related the story. There is disagreement about whether Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba bin Masud heard this directly from Maymuna, because he transmitted it in mursal form from a group of companions, and Maymuna was not mentioned among them. However, Daraqutni said in al-Ilal (15/267), "It has been said, from Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, from Amash, from Husayn, from Abdullah bin Utba, but the correct version is from Ubaydullah (bin Abdullah bin Utba). Abu Hamza Sukkari, Abu Ubayda bin Maen, and Jareer bin Hazim all narrated it from Amash, from Husayn, from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah in mursal form, and the mursal version is more likely correct."The hadith has two other paths. The first is what Imran bin Huzaifa narrated from the Mother of the Believers Maymuna, in similar wording. This was narrated by Nasai (4686), Ibn Majah (2408), Abd bin Humayd (1549), Ibn Hibban (5041), and Hakim (2/23), all of them through Ziyad bin Amr bin Hind, from Imran bin Huzaifa. But Ziyad bin Amr and his own teacher are both unknown. The second is what Mansur bin Mutamir narrated, saying, "I think it was from Salim bin Abu Jaad, from Maymuna, Mother of the Believers," in similar wording. This was narrated by Ahmad (26816) through Jafar bin Ziyad, from Mansur bin Mutamir. He also narrated it (26840) through Jafar bin Ziyad, from Mansur bin Mutamir, from a man, from Maymuna. Salim bin Abu Jaad is not recorded as having heard directly from Maymuna. The hadith has other paths as well, and when they are combined together, the hadith becomes hasan li-ghayrihi.
