Hanzala bin Qays reported,
Rafi bin Khadij reported, "My paternal uncles told me that during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, people used to lease land in exchange for whatever grew along the irrigation channels, or some portion that the landowner reserved for himself. The Prophet ﷺ forbade that practice."I asked Rafi, "What about leasing it for dinars and dirhams?"Rafi replied, "There is no harm in leasing it for dinars and dirhams." Zaheer and Muheer

عن رافع بن خديج قال: حدثني عماي أنهم كانوا يكرون الأرض على عهد النبي ﷺ بما ينبت على الأربعاء، أو شيء يستثنيه صاحب الأرض، فنهى النبي ﷺ. عن ذلك. فقلت لرافع: فكيف هي بالدينار والدرهم؟ فقال رافع: ليس بها بأس بالدينار والدرهم. ظهير اور مهير رضي الله عنهما.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on farming and cultivation (2346), from Amr bin Khalid, who said, our teacher Layth told us, from Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Hanzala bin Qays, and he related it.Layth said, "What was prohibited in this was such that, if people of understanding examined it in light of what is lawful and unlawful, they would not permit it, because of the risk it involves."As for his saying "arbia," it is the plural of "rabi," which means a small stream.
