A man freed a slave of his to take effect after his death, but then he became in need. The Prophet ﷺ took the slave and asked, "Who will buy him from me?" Naeem bin Abdullah bought him for such and such a price, and the Prophet ﷺ handed him over to him.
أن رجلا أعتق غلاما له عن دبر، فاحتاج، فأخذه النبي ﷺ فقال: من يشتريه مني؟ فاشتراه نعيم بن عبد الله بكذا وكذا، فدفعه إليه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sales (2141) via Husayn al-Muktib, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Jabir, as mentioned. He also narrated it (2230) through another route from Ata, in brief, with the wording, "The Prophet ﷺ sold the mudabbar." Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (997) via Layth, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, with a longer wording.
