The Prophet ﷺ and his companions entered the state of ihram for Hajj. Ayesha began menstruating, so she performed all the rites of Hajj except for circumambulating the House. When she became pure and made the circumambulation, she said, "Messenger of Allah, are you all going to leave with both an Umrah and a Hajj while I leave with only the Hajj?"So he commanded Abd al-Rahman bin Abu Bakr to go out with her to al-Tanim, and she performed Umrah after the Hajj in the month of Dhul-Hijjah.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Umrah (1785) via Habib al-Muallim, from Ataa (that is, Ibn Abu Rabah), who said, Jabir bin Abdullah told me, and then he related it. Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Hajj (1216) through other lines besides Habib al-Muallim, from Ataa, with the same chain, but without this wording. However, he narrated it (1213) via Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, with similar wording. Its wording is, "... She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I feel within myself that I have not performed tawaf around the House, for I have already performed Hajj.' He said, 'Take her, O Abdul-Rahman, and have her perform Umrah from Tanim.'" That was on the night of Hasbah. The Prophet's ﷺ permission to Ayesha was meant to comfort and please her, otherwise it is disliked to leave Makkah for a voluntary Umrah, since the Prophet ﷺ never did this, nor did his companions, whether in Ramadan or at any other time, and performing tawaf around the House is by unanimous agreement better than going out for this purpose. It is worth noting that the Prophet ﷺ did not command Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Bakr to perform Umrah along with Ayesha. As for a person who performs Umrah for himself and then completes it, and then wishes to perform Umrah on behalf of his deceased or incapacitated father, or likewise his mother, there is no harm in his going out to a place outside the sacred area, such as Tanim, and entering the state of ihram for Umrah from there, and he is not obligated to travel to the miqat. This is the fatwa given by the Standing Committee.
