Narrated by Bukhari in the Reward for Game (1863), and Muslim in Hajj (1256:222), both through Yazid bin Zuray, who said, Habib al-Muallim narrated to us, from Ata, from Ibn Abbas, who related it. The wording given is Muslim's, since it is more complete, except that his statement, "and the other used to water our slave boy," contains a scribal error. The correct wording, as found in Bukhari, is "and the other used to water land belonging to us," or it might be said that the word "land" was dropped from it, meaning "and the other used to water our slave boy's land." Bukhari's wording is close to this, except that he said, "a Hajj with me," without any doubt expressed.Umrah in Ramadan equals a Hajj performed with the Prophet ﷺ, and this is specific to this woman who expressed her sorrow at missing out on the reward of Hajj with him. So the Prophet ﷺ comforted her by saying, "When Ramadan comes, perform Umrah, for it equals a Hajj with me." As for others besides her, Umrah in Ramadan equals a Hajj in general, as stated in the general narrations.Bukhari also narrated it in Umrah (1782), and Muslim in Hajj (1256:221), both through Yahya bin Saeed (that is, al-Qattan), from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Ata told me, he said, I heard Ibn Abbas relating to us. He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a woman from the Ansar, whom Ibn Abbas named but I have forgotten her name, "What kept you from performing Hajj with us?" She said, "We had only two water-carrying camels. My son's father and my son performed Hajj on one of them, and left us the other to draw water with." He said, "When Ramadan comes, perform Umrah, for an Umrah in it equals a Hajj."
