I never heard Talha bin Ubaydullah relate any hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except for a single one. He said, "We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heading for the graves of the martyrs. When we reached the heights overlooking Harrat Waqim and began descending from it, suddenly there were graves at a bend in the path."We said, "Messenger of Allah, are these the graves of our brothers?"He replied, "These are the graves of our companions."When we came to the graves of the martyrs, he said, "These are the graves of our brothers."
ما سمعت طلحة عبيد الله يحدث عن رسول الله ﷺ حديثا قط غير حديث واحد، قال: خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ يريد قبور الشهداء، حتى إذا أشرفنا على حرة واقم، فلما تدلينا منها وإذا قبور بمحنية. قال: قلنا: يا رسول الله، أقبور إخواننا هذه؟ قال: قبور أصحابنا فلما جئنا قبور الشهداء، قال: هذه قبور إخواننا.
Abu Dawud (2043) reported it from Hamid bin Yahya, who said, Muhammad bin Maen Madani told us, Dawud bin Khalid informed me, from Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Rabia bin Hudayr, who said, so he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Dawud bin Khalid, who is Ibn Dinar Madani, and he is truthful as stated in Taqrib. Ahmad (1387) also reported it through this same route, as did Bazzar in Kashf Astar (955).As for his statement, "Harrat Waqim," this is the harrah where the massacre took place that Muslim bin Uqba inflicted upon them in the days of Yazid bin Muawiya. It is one of the two harrahs of Madinah, the eastern one. The western harrah is called "Wabarah."This hadith indicates the visiting of the graves of the martyrs of Uhud. It has been established, as mentioned earlier, from Uqba bin Amir, that the Prophet ﷺ, near the end of his life, went out and performed over the people of Uhud the prayer he performed over the dead. In one version, "He prayed over them after eight years, like one bidding farewell to the living."
