Stopping at Muhassab is not a required practice. It was simply a place where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ happened to camp.
ليس التحصيب بشيء، إنما هو منزل نزله رسول الله ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Hajj (1766), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hajj (1312), both from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Amr, from Ataa, from Ibn Abbas, as mentioned. Their wording is the same. Tahsib means stopping at Abtah, as Tirmidhi said (3/254).
