The Prophet ﷺ said on the day of Hudaybiyah, "Allah, forgive those who shave their heads."A man asked, "And those who shorten their hair?"He said, "Allah, forgive those who shave their heads."The man asked again, "And those who shorten their hair?"He repeated it three or four times, then finally said, "And those who shorten their hair."
أن النبي ﷺ قال يوم الحديبية: اللهم اغفر للمحلقين فقال رجل: والمقصرين؟ فقال: اللهم اغفر للمحلقين. فقال: والمقصرين؟ قال حتى قالها ثلاثا، أو أربعا، ثم قال: وللمقصرين.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (4897, 6384) from Abdul-Razzaq, who said, Mamar informed us, from Ayub, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, and he related it. Ibn Abu Shayba also narrated it (14/452) through another route from Ibn Umar within the account of Hudaybiya, and it contains an explicit statement that he ﷺ said that on the day of Hudaybiya, just as he also said it during the Farewell Pilgrimage. There is no contradiction between the two, and so there is no need to deny that he also said it on the day of Hudaybiya, for whoever denied that relied on his own lack of knowledge of it, and lack of knowledge is not knowledge, as it is said. The sahih and established position held by the scholars of verification is that he ﷺ first said that at Hudaybiya, then repeated it during the Farewell Pilgrimage, as is also explicitly stated in the hadith of Umm Husayn Aslamiyyah that follows.
