I was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ at Arafat. He raised his hands in supplication when his she-camel swerved and her halter dropped. He took hold of the halter with one hand while keeping the other raised.
كنت رديف النبي ﷺ بعرفات، فرفع يديه يدعو، فمالت به ناقته فسقط خطامها، فتناول الخطام بإحدى يديه، وهو رافع يده الأخرى.
Nasai (3011) narrated it from Yaqub bin Ibrahim, from Hushaym, who said, Abdul-Malik narrated to us, from Ataa, who said, Usama said, and then he related it. Ahmad (21821) also narrated it, and Ibn Khuzayma (2824) graded it sahih, both of them from the hadith of Hushaym, with the same wording.Ataa is Ibn Abu Rabah, and there is disagreement about whether he heard directly from Usama bin Zayd. Abu Hatim denied that he did, as stated in Tuhfat Tahsil (p. 229), while Ibn Khuzayma affirmed it, as in his Sahih (3006), where he said, Usama bin Zayd narrated to me.The original form of this hadith is that it comes from Ataa, from Ibn Abbas, from Usama bin Zayd, except that Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman made an error and dropped the intermediary, since he was known to have lapses of memory. He narrated a number of hadiths from Ataa, from Usama bin Zayd. See Musnad Ahmad (21822, 21823).For this reason, the authors of the Sahih collections included this hadith and others transmitted through this same route, among them Diya Maqdisi in Mukhtarah (1335), through the route of Hushaym.
