The Prophet ﷺ was cupped on the road to Makkah while he ﷺ was in the state of ihram, on the middle of his head.
أن النبي ﷺ احتجم بطريق مكة وهو ﷺ محرم، وسط رأسه.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on the penalty for game (1836), and Muslim in the chapter on Hajj (1203), both through the route of Sulayman bin Bilal, from Alqama bin Abu Alqama, from Abdul-Rahman Araj, from Ibn Buhaynah, with this wording. The wording given is that of Muslim. Bukhari's wording is similar, except that he said "at Lahyi Jamal" instead of "on the road to Makkah." Lahyi Jamal is a place on the road to Makkah. Hafiz said, "Whoever supposed it meant the jawbone of the well-known animal, the camel, and that it was the instrument used for cupping, was mistaken" (Fath al-Bari 4/51). Ibn Buhaynah is named after his mother, and his actual name is Abdullah bin Malik.
