Abdullah, meaning Ibn Umar, used to do that, meaning he would cut the leather socks for a woman in the state of ihram. Then Safiya bint Abu Ubayd told him that Ayesha had told her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had granted women a concession regarding leather socks, so he abandoned that practice.
أن عبد الله (يعني ابن عمر): كان يصنع ذلك يعني يقطع الخفين للمرأة المحرمة، ثم حدثته صفية بنت أبي عبيد أن عائشة حدثتها أن رسول الله ﷺ قد كان رخص للنساء في الخفين فترك ذلك.
Abu Dawud (1831) narrated it from Qutayba bin Saeed, Ibn Abu Adi told us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, "I mentioned it to Ibn Shihab, and he said, 'Salim bin Abdullah told me that Abdullah bin Umar used to do that,'" and he related it.Imam Ahmad (4836) narrated it from Muhammad bin Abu Adi, with his chain, similarly.Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, since he explicitly stated that he heard it from Zuhri.Shafii narrated it from Ibn Uyayna, from Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, that he used to give the women a ruling that when they entered ihram, they should cut their khuffs, until Safiya informed him, on the authority of Ayesha, that she used to give the women a ruling not to cut them, so he stopped saying that. Al-Umm (2/147), and from him Bayhaqi related it (5/52).
