A man stood up and asked, "Messenger of Allah, what garments do you command us to wear during ihram?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Do not wear shirts, trousers, turbans, or hooded cloaks. If anyone cannot find sandals, let him wear leather socks, but he must cut them below the ankles. Do not wear any garment touched by saffron or wars dye. A woman in ihram must not cover her face with a veil, nor wear gloves."
Bukhari reported it in "Reward of Hunting" (1838) from Abdullah bin Yazid, who said, Layth reported to us, Nafi reported to us, from Ibn Umar, in the same manner. He said, "Musa bin Uqba, Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Uqba, Juwayriya, and Ibn Ishaq followed him regarding the face-veil and gloves." Bukhari's statement, "Musa bin Uqba followed him... etc." means that they followed Layth in mentioning the face-veil and gloves as part of the raised hadith, from Nafi. Malik also reported it from Nafi, but did not raise it, so Bukhari judged that the addition from a reliable narrator is acceptable.Abu Dawud (1825) also mentioned, after reporting it as a raised hadith through Layth, that Hatim bin Ismail, Yahya bin Ayub, and Musa bin Uqba reported this addition from Nafi in the same way Layth stated it. He then said, "Musa bin Tariq reported it from Musa bin Uqba as a stopped report attributed only to Ibn Umar, and likewise Ubaydullah bin Umar, Malik, and Ayub reported it as a stopped report." Abu Dawud also mentioned that among those who raised it was Ibrahim bin Saeed Madini, who is a shaykh from the people of Madinah with not much hadith to his credit. He recorded it (1826) from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Ibrahim bin Saeed Madini reported to us, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "The woman in ihram must not wear a face-veil, nor gloves."I say, this Ibrahim bin Saeed is majhul (of unknown status), as Abu Dawud indicated by noting that he is not well known. Hafiz said in Taqrib, "Of unknown status." However, he has been corroborated, as mentioned earlier.
