The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Give in charity, women, even from your jewelry, for you make up the majority of the people of Hell."A woman who was not among the prominent women stood up and asked, "Why is that, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Because you curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands."In another narration, "I have not seen anyone more capable of overpowering the intellect of a sensible man than you, despite your deficiency in reason and religion."
Imam Ahmad narrated it (3569, 4152), and Abu Yaala (5112, 5144), and Hakim (2/190), all of them through the route of Mansur bin Abu Aswad, from Dharr, from Waail bin Mahana, from Abdullah bin Masud, who related the hadith. Hakim said, "Its isnad is sahih, but they [Bukhari and Muslim] did not narrate it."I say, it is hasan, for Waail bin Mahana was not deemed reliable by anyone except Ibn Hibban (5/495), except that he was known to Imam Ahmad, who said in the second place, "He was among the companions of Abdullah bin Masud." Shuba said likewise, as Bukhari mentioned it in Tarikh al-Kabir (8/176), "Nasr bin Ali said, from his father, from Shuba, who said, 'Waail was among the companions of Ibn Masud.'" Someone like him, his hadith is deemed hasan, and he is not to be treated as unknown, as Dhahabi said in al-Mizan, "He is not known."As for the second sentence, Hakim narrated it (4/602, 603) through the route of Qabisa bin Uqba, from Sufyan, from Mansur, with his isnad, as a raised report (marfu), and he said, "It is sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs [Bukhari and Muslim], but they did not narrate it. Jareer also narrated it, from Mansur, from Amash, with additional wording in it."The correct view is that the final sentence is a stopped report (mawquf) attributed to Ibn Masud, based on what Humaydi narrated (92) from Sufyan, who said, Mansur narrated to us with his isnad, and in it, "Then Abdullah said, 'I have found none more deficient in intellect and religion, and more overpowering of men possessed of sound judgment in their affairs, than women.' It was said, 'O Abu Abdul-Rahman, what is the deficiency in her intellect and her religion?' He said, 'As for the deficiency in her intellect, Allah made the testimony of two women equal to the testimony of one man. And as for the deficiency in her religion, she spends so many days without performing a single sajdah in prayer to Allah.'"Abu Yaala likewise narrated it (5112) through the route of Abdul-Aziz bin Abdul-Samad, who said, Mansur narrated to us with his isnad, similarly, as a stopped report. But it carries the ruling of a raised report, for Ibn Masud would not say such a thing on his own authority. Perhaps he raised it to the Prophet on one occasion and stopped it on another, as a precaution, as is known of his practice.
