Someone said, "Messenger of Allah, my father is an elderly man who cannot perform Hajj, nor Umrah, nor travel by mount."He replied, "Perform Hajj on behalf of your father and perform Umrah."
يا رسول الله، إن أبي شيخ كبير لا يستطيع الحج ولا العمرة ولا الطعن؟ قال: حج عن أبيك واعتمر.
Reported by Abu Dawud (1810), Tirmidhi (930), Nasai (2637), and Ibn Majah (2906), all of them through the route of Shubah, from Numan bin Salim, from Amr bin Aws, from Abu Razeen, who said, and then he mentioned it.Ahmad (16184) also reported it through this same route, and Ibn Khuzayma (3040), Ibn Hibban (3991), and Hakim (1/481) graded it sahih, with Hakim saying, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs."Bayhaqi (4/350) also reported it through this route, and said that Imam Ahmad said, "I do not know of any hadith on the obligation of Umrah better than this one, nor more sahih than it. No one has done it as well as Shubah did."I say, Abu Razeen is Laqeet Aqeeli.
