The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not lawful for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel a distance of a day and a night except in the company of a Muharram relative."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: لا يحل لامرأة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر تسافر مسيرة يوم وليلة، إلا مع ذي محرم منها.
Malik narrated it in the Book of Seeking Permission (37) from Saeed bin Abu Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, and mentioned it. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hajj (1339:421) through the route of Malik, similarly. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Shortening the Prayer (1088), and Muslim also in the Book of Hajj (1339:420), both of them through the route of Ibn Abu Dhib, who said, Saeed Maqburi narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Hurairah. Likewise, Muslim also narrated it from Layth, from Saeed bin Abu Saeed, from his father, from Abu Hurairah.Daraqutni criticized the two of them for reporting this hadith in this way, saying, "The correct version is, from Saeed, from Abu Hurairah," without mentioning "his father," relying on Malik's version. It has been answered that he may have first heard it from his father, from Abu Hurairah, then later heard it directly from Abu Hurairah without an intermediary, and so he narrated it both ways. This is something well known among the scholars of hadith.
