The Prophet ﷺ used to observe seclusion during the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah Almighty took him, and his wives observed seclusion after him.
أن النبي ﷺ كان يعتكف العشر الأواخر من رمضان حتى توفاه الله تعالى، ثم اعتكف أزواجه من بعده.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Itikaf (2026), and Muslim in the Book of Itikaf (1172:5), both by way of Layth bin Saad, from Aqeel, from Ibn Shihab Zuhri, from Urwa bin Zubayr, from Ayesha, who narrated it. Their wordings are identical.Abdul-Razzaq related it (7682), and by his route Imam Ahmad (7784), Tirmidhi (790), and Ibn Hibban (3665), from Maamar and Ibn Jurayj, both of whom heard Ibn Shihab narrating from Urwa, from Ayesha, and from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abu Hurairah, who related the hadith except for her statement, "Then his wives observed itikaf after him." Its chain of transmission is sahih. Some of them did not mention Ibn Jurayj.
