Food was brought to the Prophet ﷺ at Marr al-Zahran, and he said to Abu Bakr and Umar, "Come closer and eat."They replied, "We are fasting."He said, "Prepare the mounts for your two companions, and do the work for your two companions."
أتي النبي ﷺ بطعام بمر الظهران، فقال لأبي بكر وعمر: أدنيا فكلا فقالا: إنا صائمان. فقال: ارحلوا لصاحبيكم، واعملوا الصاحبيكم.
Nasai (2264), Imam Ahmad (8436), Ibn Khuzayma (2031), and Ibn Hibban (3557) narrated it and graded it sahih, as did Hakim (1/433), all of them through routes from Abu Dawud, who is Hafri, who said, Sufyan Thawri narrated to us, from Uzai, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Hakim said, "It is sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs [Bukhari and Muslim]." I say, rather it meets the standard of Muslim alone, for Abu Dawud Hafri's name is Umar bin Saad bin Ubayd, and Bukhari did not narrate from him. Its chain of transmission is sahih, and it is not undermined by the one who narrated it in mursal form from Abu Salama, because Abu Dawud is trustworthy.As for his saying, "Saddle up," it means to fasten the saddle for the two of them on the camel.
