We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when sixteen days of Ramadan had passed. Some of us fasted and some of us did not. Those who fasted did not blame those who broke their fast, nor did those who broke their fast blame those who fasted.
غزونا مع رسول الله ﷺ لست عشرة مضت من رمضان، فمنا من صام، ومنا من أفطر، فلم يعب الصائم على المفطر، ولا المفطر على الصائم.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting (1116) through multiple routes from Qatada, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed Khudri, and he related it. Abu Nadra's name was Munzir bin Malik bin Qita Abdi. In one of his narrations it reads, "eighteen [nights] had passed." In another narration, "on the twelfth." And in another narration, "on the seventeenth or nineteenth."
