Hamza bin Amr al-Aslami asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Should I fast while traveling?" He used to fast frequently.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "If you wish, then fast, and if you wish, then break your fast."
أن حمزة بن عمرو الأسلمي، قال لرسول الله ﷺ: أأصوم في السفر؟ وكان كثير الصيام، فقال له رسول الله ﷺ: إن شئت فصم، وإن شئت فأفطر.
Malik related it in "Fasting" (in the narration of Abu Musab Zuhri, no. 794) from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, with this wording, and he mentioned it.Bukhari related it in "Fasting" (1943) from Abdullah bin Yusuf, who said, Malik informed us, with this wording, similarly.Muslim related it in "Fasting" (1121) through several routes from Layth, Hammad bin Zayd, and Abu Muawiya, all of them from Hisham bin Urwa, with his chain of transmission, similarly.Malik related it, in the narration of Yahya Laythi from him (24), from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, that Hamza bin Amr Aslami said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ..." the hadith. He did not mention in it "from Ayesha."Ibn Abdul-Barr said in Tamhid (22/146), "This is how Yahya said it, Malik, from Hisham, from his father, that Hamza bin Amr. But the rest of Malik's companions said, from Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, that Hamza bin Amr... The hadith is preserved as being from Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, this is how a group narrated it from Hisham." End of quote.I say, it is as he said, and mention of some of them has already been made among the narrations of Muslim, but someone other than Hisham related it without mentioning Ayesha.
