The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to kiss some of his wives while he was fasting, then she laughed.
إن كان رسول الله ﷺ ليقبل بعض أزواجه وهو صائم، ثم ضحكت.
Malik narrated it in the Fasting chapter (14) from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, and mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in the Fasting chapter (1928) through the route of Malik, with the same wording. Muslim narrated it in the Fasting chapter (1106:62) through the route of Sufyan (that is, Ibn Uyayna), from Hisham bin Urwa, with the same wording. He also narrated it (1106:64) through the route of Qasim (that is, Muhammad bin Abu Bakr), from Ayesha, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to kiss while he was fasting, and which of you can control his desire as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ could control his desire?"Her word "irbahu" (his desire), with the hamzah either open or with a kasrah, originally means "the limb," and here it is used as a euphemism for intercourse. It is as though she was discouraging that practice out of fear that a fasting person might fall into something forbidden, not that she considered it prohibited, and not that she regarded it as something exclusive to the Prophet, as Qurtubi stated in Al-Mufhim (3/164).This is because it is reported in Muwatta Malik, in the Fasting chapter (17), from Abu Nadr, freedman of Umar bin Ubaydullah, that the daughter of Talha informed him that she was with Ayesha, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, when her husband, Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Bakr Siddiq, came in to see her while he was fasting. She said to him, "What keeps you from going close to your wife, kissing her, and playing with her?" He said, "Should I kiss her while I am fasting?" She said, "Yes."Ibn Hajar said in Fath al-Bari (4/150), "This fatwa of Ayesha indicates that she did not consider it forbidden, nor did she consider it one of the exclusive privileges of the Prophet."
