The Prophet ﷺ said, "My Lord came to me in the most beautiful form and said, 'Muhammad.'I replied, 'At Your service, my joy is in You.'He asked, 'What are the highest assembly disputing about?'I said, 'I do not know.'So He placed His hand between my shoulders, and I felt its coolness between my breasts, and I came to know all that He asked me about, both of this world and the next. Then He asked, 'What are the highest assembly disputing about?'I said, 'About the degrees and the expiations. The degrees are completing ablution properly in cold mornings, and waiting for one prayer after another. The expiations are feeding others, spreading the greeting of peace, speaking kindly, and praying at night while people sleep.'He said, 'You have spoken the truth. Whoever does these things will live in goodness and die in goodness, and will be free of sin as the day his mother bore him.'"Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah, I ask You for the doing of good deeds, the avoidance of evil deeds, love of the poor, forgiveness, and that You turn to me in mercy. And when You intend a trial for a people, take me to You unafflicted by that trial."
Tabarani reported it in Al-Kabir (8/349), and this is his wording, and Ibn Abu Asim in Al-Sunnah (389, 466) in abridged form, both from the hadith of Jareer, from Layth, from Ibn Sabit, from Abu Umama, who mentioned it.Haythami said in Al-Majma (7/179), "Tabarani reported it, and it contains Layth bin Abu Salim, whose hadith is hasan despite his weakness, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy."I say, it is as he said. Scholars have indeed spoken about Layth bin Abu Salim because of his confusion in later life, and Ibn Adi held a good opinion of him, saying, "He has sound hadiths." Bazzar said, "He was one of the devout worshippers, but confusion afflicted him, so his hadith became disordered. Scholars only spoke about him for this reason, otherwise we do not know of anyone who abandoned his hadith altogether."I say, this hadith is not problematic as a corroborating narration, but otherwise I am cautious about accepting his hadith. As for Ibn Sabit, he is Abdul-Rahman, one of the trustworthy narrators.
