Tirmidhi (2486) narrated it from Ishaq bin Musa Ansari, who said, our teacher was Muhammad bin Maen Madani Ghifari, who said, my father narrated to me, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, and then he related the hadith. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith."I say, its isnad is hasan because of Abu Muhammad, who is Maen bin Muhammad bin Maen bin Nadla Ghifari. A number of narrators reported from him, Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and he is among the narrators relied upon by Bukhari.Ibn Majah (1764), Ibn Khuzayma (1899), and Hakim (1/422) also narrated it, all of them by another route, from Maen bin Muhammad, from Hanzala bin Ali Aslami, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. So Maen bin Muhammad turns out to have two teachers, Saeed Maqburi and Hanzala bin Ali Aslami.Ibn Khuzayma said, "Both isnads are sahih." Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of the two sheikhs." The correct view is that it meets the criterion of Bukhari alone.Dhahabi raised an objection to Hakim, saying, "It is in the Sahihayn, so there is no basis for this additional grading." I say, Dhahabi's statement gives the impression that the hadith appears in the Sahihayn with a full connected isnad, but the truth is that Bukhari mentioned it in the Book of Foods, in the chapter, "The one who eats and is grateful is like the one who fasts and is patient," from Abu Hurairah, as a suspended narration without a full chain. As for Muslim, he did not include it at all.This hadith has also been narrated through other chains, but they contain breaks and errors, and the one I have mentioned is the soundest of them.
