Huzaifa bin Yaman reported,

Umar asked, "Who among you remembers a hadith from the Prophet ﷺ concerning trials?"Hudhayfah replied, "I do. I heard him say, 'A man's trial lies in his family, his property, and his neighbor, and prayer, fasting, and charity expiate it.'"Umar said, "That is not what I am asking about. I am asking about the trial that surges like the waves of the sea."Hudhayfah said, "Between you and it stands a locked door."Umar asked, "Will the door be opened or broken?"He answered, "It will be broken."Umar remarked, "Then it is more likely never to be shut again until the Day of Resurrection."We said to Masruq, "Ask him, did Umar know who the door was?" So he asked him, and he replied, "Yes, as surely as he knew that night comes before tomorrow."

عن حذيفة، قال

قال عمر رضي الله عنه: من يحفظ حديثا عن النبي ﷺ في الفتنة؟ قال حذيفة: أنا سمعته يقول: فتنة الرجل في أهله وماله وجاره تكفرها الصلاة والصيام والصدقة. قال: ليس أسأل عن ذه، إنما أسأل عن التي تموج كما يموج البحر. قال: وإن دون ذلك بابا مغلقا. قال: فيفتح أو يكسر؟ قال: يكسر. قال: ذاك أجدر أن لا يغلق إلى يوم القيامة. فقلنا لمسروق: سله، أكان عمر يعلم من الباب؟ فسأله، فقال: نعم، كما يعلم أن دون غد الليلة.
