Abdullah bin Abbas reported,
Muhammad saw his Lord.Ikrima objected, "Does Allah not say, 'Vision cannot grasp Him, but He grasps all vision' [Anam 6:103]?"He replied, "Woe to you, that applies when He manifests Himself in His light which is His light. Muhammad indeed saw his Lord twice."

Hasanعن ابن عباس أنه قال
رأى محمد ربه، فقال عكرمة: أليس الله يقول: {لا تدركه الأبصار وهو يدرك الأبصار}[الأنعام: ١٠٣]. قال: ويحك، ذاك إذا تجلى بنوره الذي هو نوره، وقد رأى محمد ربه مرتين.
Tirmidhi (3279) narrated it from Muhammad bin Amr bin Nabhan bin Safwan Thaqafi, who said, Yahya bin Kathir Anbari Abu Ghassan told us, Salm bin Jafar told us, from Hakam bin Abban, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.Ibn Abu Asim also narrated it in Sunnah (437), as did Ibn Khuzayma in Tawhid (384), Lalikai in Usul Itiqad (920), and Bayhaqi in Asma wa Sifat (936), all of them through the route of Hakam bin Abban, with his chain, in similar wording.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith."Ibn Abu Asim said, "There is some criticism regarding him."I say, he means by this Hakam bin Abban, for there is indeed some mild criticism of him concerning his memory, though Ibn Main, Nasai, and Ajli affirmed his reliability.Bayhaqi said, "Hakam is unknown, not to be relied upon in sahih."I say, he is not unknown, for those before him knew him, and moreover he is corroborated by what follows.
