Abu Dawud (2345) and Bayhaqi (4/236-237) both narrated it through Muhammad bin Abu Wazir, Abu Mutarrif, who said, our teacher Muhammad bin Musa told us, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Muhammad bin Musa, who is Fitri Madani, "truthful," one of the men of the Sahih. Muhammad bin Abu Wazir is Muhammad bin Umar bin Mutarrif, Abu Mutarrif, Ibn Abu Wazir. Abu Hatim said, trustworthy.Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (3475), but he narrated it through the hadith of Ibrahim bin Abu Wazir with the same wording. Ibrahim is the brother of Muhammad bin Umar bin Mutarrif, Ibn Abu Wazir, known by the kunya Abu Ishaq, and he is one of the men of the Sahih, corroborating his brother.On this subject there is also a report from Jabir as a raised hadith, "The best pre-dawn meal is dates." Bazzar narrated it, in Kashf Astar (978), from Raja bin Muhammad Saqati and Muhammad bin Muamar Bahrani, who both said, our teacher Abu Amir Abdul-Malik bin Amr told us, our teacher Zama told us, from Amr bin Dinar, from Jabir, and then he related it.Bazzar said, we do not know it from Jabir except through this chain of transmission.Haythami said in Majma (3/151), "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."I say, it is as he said, except that Zama (who is Ibn Salih Jundi Yamani), though he is one of the narrators used by Muslim, is daif by the agreement of the scholars, and his hadith in Sahih Muslim is only cited alongside another narrator's.
