The people disagreed about the last day of Ramadan, then two Arabis came and testified before the Prophet ﷺ, swearing by Allah that they had sighted the crescent moon the previous evening. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the people to break their fast.Khalaf added in his version, "and to go out to their prayer ground in the morning."
Abu Dawud (2339) narrated it from Musaddad and Khalaf bin Hisham the reciter, who both said, Abu Awana narrated to us, from Mansur, from Rabi bin Harash, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and he mentioned it.Daraqutni also narrated it through this route (2202), as did Bayhaqi (4/250), and Daraqutni said, "This is an established isnad." Daraqutni also has another route through Ubayda bin Humayd, from Mansur, with the same chain. In it, "The Prophet ﷺ began the day fasting to complete thirty days of Ramadan, when two Bedouins came and testified that there is no god but Allah, and that they had sighted the crescent moon the previous evening, so he commanded the people, and they broke their fast." And he said, "This is sahih."Imam Ahmad (18824) and Bayhaqi (4/248) both narrated it from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Sufyan, from Mansur, with the same chain, similarly. However, Hakim (1/297), and from him Bayhaqi (4/248), narrated it through the route of Ishaq bin Ibrahim Talaqani, who said, Sufyan bin Uyayna narrated to us, from Mansur, from Rabi bin Harash, from Abu Masud, who said, (and he mentioned the hadith). Bayhaqi said, Ibrahim bin Bashar also narrated it likewise, from Sufyan. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Sheikhs."This is a mistake on his part, for Ishaq bin Ibrahim Talaqani was not narrated from by the two Sheikhs, rather only Abu Dawud narrated from him alone, though he is trustworthy. Naming the Companion or not naming him does not affect the sahih status of the hadith.
