The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the first night of the month of Ramadan arrives, the devils and rebellious jinn are chained up, the gates of the Fire are shut so that not a single gate remains open, and the gates of Paradise are opened so that not a single gate remains closed. A caller proclaims, 'Seeker of good, come forward! Seeker of evil, hold back!' And Allah has those whom He frees from the Fire, and that happens every night."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا كان أول ليلة من شهر رمضان صفدت الشياطين ومردة الجن، وغلقت أبواب النار فلم يفتح منها باب، وفتحت أبواب الجنة فلم يغلق منها باب، وينادي مناد: يا باغي الخير أقبل، ويا باغي الشر أقصر. ولله عتقاء من النار، وذلك كل ليلة.
Tirmidhi (682) and Ibn Majah (1642) narrated it, and Ibn Khuzayma (1883), Ibn Hibban (3435), and Hakim (1/421) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Muhammad bin Ala bin Kurayb, who said, Abu Bakr bin Ayyash narrated to us, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Its chain is hasan on account of the discussion surrounding Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, though his hadith is hasan, for he was criticized on account of his memory, just as Ibn Numayr criticized him regarding his transmission from Amash. Perhaps for this reason Tirmidhi said, "This is a rare hadith. We do not know it from the narration of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, except from the hadith of Abu Bakr." He said, "I asked Muhammad bin Ismail about this hadith, and he said, 'Hasan bin Rabi narrated to us, Abu Ahwas narrated to us, from Amash, from Mujahid, as his own statement.' Muhammad said, 'This is more sahih in my view than the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash.'" End of quote.This is the view of Bukhari, but the compilers of the Sahih works differed with him and included it in their books. Hakim said, "It is sahih according to the criterion of the two Shaykhs, though they did not narrate it with this wording." Ibn Hajar, in Fath al-Bari (4/114), referred to the narration of Ibn Khuzayma and others without commenting on it, so it appears that he leans toward grading it hasan.This is strengthened by what Abu Qilaba narrated from Abu Hurairah, who said, "When Ramadan arrived, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Ramadan has come to you, a blessed month. Allah has made its fasting obligatory upon you. In it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained. In it there is a night better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its good has truly been deprived.'"Nasai (2106), Abdul-Razzaq (8383), and Ahmad (7148) all narrated it from the hadith of Ayub Sakhtiyani, from Abu Qilaba, from him. But Abu Qilaba, whose name was Abdullah bin Zayd Jarmi, did not hear from Abu Hurairah. Alai mentioned this and said, "The apparent conclusion in all of this is that it is a disconnected transmission."
