We used to give the zakat al-fitr as one saa of food, or one saa of barley, or one saa of dates, or one saa of dried curd, or one saa of raisins, measured by the saa of the Prophet ﷺ.
كنا نخرج زكاة الفطر صاعا من طعام أو صاعا من شعير أو صاعا من تمر أو صاعا من أقط أو صاعا من زبيب وذلك بصاع النبي ﷺ.
Malik narrated it in the chapter on zakat (53) from Zayd bin Aslam, from Iyad bin Abdullah bin Saad bin Abu Sarh Amiri, that he heard Abu Saeed Khudri, and he related the hadith.Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on zakat (1506) from Abdullah bin Yusuf, and Muslim narrated it in the chapter on zakat (985) from Yahya bin Yahya, both of them from Malik. His statement, "and that is by the measure of the Prophet ﷺ," is not found in the Sahihayn.
