There were three rulings established through Barirah's case. One of these three rulings was that when she was set free, she was given the choice regarding her husband, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The right of clientage belongs to the one who emancipates."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered while a pot was boiling with meat in it, and bread along with some condiment from the household's provisions was brought close to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Did I not see a pot containing meat?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah, but that is meat given as charity to Barirah, and you do not eat from charity."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "For her it is charity, but for us it is a gift."
Malik narrated it in Talaq (29), from Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Qasim bin Muhammad, from Ayesha, mother of the believers, that she said (and he mentioned it).Bukhari narrated it in Talaq (5279), and Muslim in Zakat (1075: 173), both of them through the route of Malik, in a similar wording, except that Muslim shortened it to the matter of the gift, and referred the wording he mentioned to another route from Qasim.
