A man asked the Prophet ﷺ for a flock of sheep filling the space between two mountains, and he gave it to him. The man returned to his people and said, "My people, embrace Islam, for by Allah, Muhammad gives so generously that he fears no poverty."Anas said, "A man would embrace Islam wanting nothing but worldly gain, yet he would not remain long in Islam before it became dearer to him than the world and all it contains."
أن رجلا سأل النبي ﷺ غنما بين جبلين فأعطاه إياه فأتى قومه فقال: أي قوم أسلموا، فوالله إن محمدا ليعطي عطاء ما يخاف الفقر. فقال أنس: إن كان الرجل ليسلم ما يريد إلا الدنيا فما يسلم حتى يكون الإسلام أحب إليه من الدنيا وما عليها.
Muslim narrated it in al-Fadail (2312) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Yazid bin Harun narrated to us, from Hammad bin Salama, from Thabit, from Anas, and he mentioned it.He also narrated it by another route, from Humayd, from Musa bin Anas, from his father, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was never asked for anything for the sake of Islam without giving it. A man came to him, so he gave him sheep between two mountains." And he mentioned it.
