Saad came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, my mother has died without leaving a will. Will it benefit her if I give charity on her behalf?"He replied, "Yes, and provide water in particular."
أن سعدا أتى النبي ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله، إن أمي توفيت ولم توص، أفينفعها أن أتصدق عنها؟ قال: نعم، وعليك بالماء.
Tabarani reported it in Awsat (8057) from Musa bin Harun, who said, Muhammad bin Abu Umar Adani told us, who said, Marwan bin Muawiya told us, from Humayd Tawil, from Anas, and he related it.Haythami said in Majma (3/138), "Its narrators are the narrators of the sahih."I say, it is as he said. Muhammad bin Abu Umar, the name of Abu Umar was Yahya, so he is Muhammad bin Yahya bin Abu Umar Adani, the author of the Musnad. Muslim reported from him, and he is "truthful."Abu Hatim said, "He had some lapses of attention."
