The Prophet ﷺ spat into the palm of his hand, then placed his index finger on it and said, "Allah says, 'How can you escape Me, son of Adam, when I created you from something like this? Yet when your soul reaches here'" — and he pointed to his throat — "'you say, I will give in charity. But what time is left for charity then?'"
Ibn Majah (2707), Ahmad (17842), and Hakim (2/502) all narrated it through routes going back to Hurayz bin Uthman, from Abdul-Rahman bin Maysara, from Jubayr bin Nufayr, from Busr bin Jahhash Qurashi, who said, then he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abdul-Rahman bin Maysara Hadrami Himsi was deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban and Ajli, and Abu Dawud said, "The teachers of Hurayz are all reliable." Ibn Hajar graded it sahih in al-Isabah (644).Hakim added, "The Messenger of Allah recited this verse, "So what is with those who disbelieve, hastening to look at you, 36 from the right and from the left, in separate groups? 37 Does every one of them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure? 38 No indeed! We created them from what they know. 39" [Maarij 70:36–39]." And he said, "Its chain of transmission is sahih."
